One Step

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

— Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)

This has been my life verse for years. Proverbs 3:5–6. And still — I’m not sure we ever finish learning what it means to actually live it.

Trust God when the path makes sense. Trust Him when it doesn’t. Trust Him when the prayer is answered, and trust Him in the waiting. Trust Him when His direction looks nothing like the one I would have chosen for myself.

That last one is the hardest, isn’t it.

There have been seasons when I could see exactly where God was leading me. And there have been others when all I could do was take the next step and believe He saw what I couldn’t. The road disappeared a few feet ahead, and I had to keep walking anyway.

Maybe that’s why these words have stayed so close to my heart. They don’t promise that I’ll understand the road. They remind me that I can trust the One who does.

And lately, I’ve been watching God do something I didn’t expect. He’s taking pieces of my story I never quite understood — the parts I’d have edited out if it were up to me — and making something new from them. Nothing wasted. These verses feel especially sacred to me now.

So this is the reminder I’m leaving here, sweet friend, for myself as much as for you:

You don’t have to know where the road leads to trust the One leading you.

One step. Then the next.

He is making your path straight, even now — even when all you can see is the little bit of ground in front of your feet.

Around the Table

  • Which is harder for you right now: trusting God when the path makes sense, or when it doesn’t?
  • Is there a season where all you can do is take the next step and believe He sees what you can’t?
  • What piece of your story are you waiting to see God make new?
  • What would change if you trusted the One leading you, without needing to see the whole road?

A Simple Prayer

Father,
You have led me before, and You are leading me still.
When I can’t see the road, help me trust the One who can.
Take the pieces I don’t understand and make something new.
I’ll take the next step. Then the next.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

One step is enough when He is the One leading.

Is something weighing on your heart today? Let me pray for you — a name, a need, or a quiet ache. You don’t have to carry it alone.
